HS is a skin condition that causes painful lumps and pus fillled bumps in parts of the body where skin touches skin like the armpits, inner thighs, and groin area. The bumps form abscesses which break open and cause pus filled discharging sinuses. Patients with HS are most often depressed. But nonetheless it can be controlled with few measures.
It is the infection of hair follicle usually caused by bacteria or fungus resulting from poor hygiene, sharing of combs and towels, shaving, plucking, or waxing, tight clothing, weight gain, etc.
HFMD is a viral infection occuring in children below 5yrs. It presents as reddish sores on the palms, soles and mouth with mild fever and sore throat. The disease is self limiting and clears on its own in 7-10 days.
Herpes is a group of viruses infecting humans. The infections range from chicken pox, herpes labialis affecting the area around mouth, herpes genitals, herpes simplex and herpes zoster.
Chicken pox is most commonly seen in children and is highly contagious. Small red colored bumps occur all over the body accompanied with fever and sore throat.
Commonly referred to as fever blisters appear as tiny blisters around the area of mouth. Most of the times patient feels a tingling sensation or itching a day or two prior to the appearance of blisters. The disease is self limiting. in few cases the blisters heal leaving behind hyperpigmentation/hypopigmentation and scarring.
Herpes zoster usually affects diabetics, patients on chemotherapy, HIV patients, in case of mental or physical stress, etc. It presents as multiple painful or tignling reddish bumps affecting one half of the body called dermatome. Treatment should be sought within 72hrs of appearance of the rash to prevent long term nerve pain.
Impetigo is a common bacterial skin infection occuring especially in children. And is also highly contagious. Most people get impetigo through skin-to-skin contact with the affected patient. Although self limiting, treatment is recommended to avoid spreading.
Warts are viral infections caused by Human Papilloma Virus. They present as fleshy bumps. They can appear anywhere on the body and require immediate attention. Warts spread from person to person and also to other areas in the same person. They can be sexually transmitted as well.
Molluscum contagiosum is a viral infection most common in children in the age group 1 to 10 years. It presents as small pearly white bumps on the skin that tend to clear with time. It is highly contagious. It spreads by having skin-to-skin contact with infected person, sharing of unwashed towel, handkerchief and clothes.
Fungal infections are very common and occur due to various causes like lack of personal hygiene, excessive sweating, sharing of clothes, towels and soaps with the affected person, diabetes, improper treatment with over the counter topical steroids. Fungal infection can affect any part of the body including nail and hair. Proper counselling, compliance to the treatment is very important for cure and preventing recurrence.
